The galaxy far, far away is getting closer. Last summer, Wall Disney Parks announced plans for an immersive Star Wars-inspired resort to be built at Walt Disney World Resort. Now, we can share more details on what this thrilling new resort, which will be seamlessly connected to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, will be like.
This first-of-its-kind resort will combine luxury with complete immersion into an authentic Star Wars story. Guests’ journey through space will start when everyone departs together for a multiday Stars Wars adventure by boarding a starship alive with characters and stories that unfold all around them during a voyage through the galaxy.
At the resort, guests immediately become active citizens of the galaxy and can dress up in the proper attire. Every resort window will also have a view into space.
The resort is planned to be “immersive,” meaning visitors will be considered “active residents” of the Star Wars galaxy, and can dress accordingly. Windows at the resort will offer glimpses into “space,” which likely will look somewhat like the space battles.
The opportunity for immersion at this resort will also stand out among all Disney resorts around the globe, as it will be seamlessly connected to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, allowing guests a total Star Wars experience. Florida’s Galaxy’s Edge park doesn’t have an opening date yet, but it won’t happen until after a similar location at the California parks opens in 2019.
The Florida resort will be set on the planet Batuu, will allow visitors to pilot Han Solo’s famed Millennium Falcon, and will serve up Luke Skywalker’s childhood drink of blue milk.
The “Guardians of the Galaxy” roller coaster coming to Florida’s Epcot park will “be one of the world’s longest enclosed roller coasters,” and will open in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort in 2021, Disney officials said.
And Pixar Pier, a new theme-park land highlighting stories from Pixar movies, will open June 23 at Disney California Adventure. It’ll include a roller coaster themed around “The Incredibles,” and dubbed the Incredicoaster.
May the force be with you!
